Removals in Grays, Tilbury and Thurrock
Grays, Tilbury and the estuary — industrial roads, new riverside stock and the crossing.
Thurrock is the industrial Thames edge of Essex, and it is the part of the county where the road network was built for freight rather than for households.
That cuts both ways. Access to the strategic network is excellent — the A13 and M25 are right there, which makes long-distance work out of Thurrock genuinely quick. Local access can be poor, because the same roads carry an enormous volume of port and distribution traffic.
The housing is a mix of older terraced Grays and Tilbury, post-war estates, and a growing amount of new riverside development at Purfleet and along the estuary.
The crossing, the port roads and the new riverside stock
The Dartford Crossing governs everything about timing here. It congests heavily and it closes without much warning. A move that has to cross it, or that runs on the A13 near the approaches, gets scheduled around the known pressure periods — and if the crossing is shut on the day we reroute rather than sit in it with your furniture.
Port and distribution traffic around Tilbury and London Gateway is constant. Some residential roads in Tilbury and West Thurrock are effectively HGV routes, which makes finding a legal, safe standing point for a removal vehicle harder than it sounds.
The newer riverside developments at Purfleet and Grays have modern access but often use shared parking courts rather than kerbside loading, and several have controlled entry. Booked in advance with the building.
Older Grays and Tilbury terraces are on-street only, with residents’ parking taken early. We arrive early enough to get a vehicle in position or run a smaller shuttle where the street will not take one.
The housing here
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces
- Grays and Tilbury. Narrow frontages, front door onto the pavement, on-street parking only.
- Post-war estate housing
- South Ockendon, Chadwell St Mary and Corringham. Generally good access with driveways or garage courts.
- New riverside apartments
- Purfleet and the Grays waterfront. Lifts, parking courts and controlled entry, all booked ahead.
- Ex-port and railway housing
- Tight terraced streets close to the working port, on roads that carry heavy traffic.
